Covid-19 sops : Boda boda riders use rural feeder roads to bypass security checkpoints

Boda boda riders are seen making lots of money in carrying passengers using rural-feeder roads connecting to Kazo-Ibanda district bypassing security check points placed on border district.
Kakulu Richard a boda boda rider in nyarubanga stage in kazo said,the presidential directive that limits crossing border district affects them in making money because the police is along the main routes to other districts thus optioning for rural feeder roads connecting to other districts
“We charge a lot of money to cross a passenger from one district to other because rural feeder roads are long and not good enough for transport usage ” he added
Kekimuli Janet who owns a shop in kanoni-kazo said, boda boda riders no longer go on stage most of them have resorted to other businesses mostly farming and rearing their animals since transport is limited.
“I call a boda boda rider who can take risks of transporting me through feeder roads to Ibanda district for shopping” she continued
“Even patients, don’t go for letters from chairperson as the system consumes time thus optioning charging boda boda riders who use feeder roads to Ibanda.” she remarks.
Ndahura Steven of Byerima near one of the feeder roads to Ibanda said, “most of the boda boda riders pass on me carrying more than one passenger even with their masks in hanging under their necks.”
Kakalulu Joseph, Chairperson in Katoma_Kazo said, the police has also learnt on these feeder roads connecting to other districts and deployes police men frequently however the boda boda riders have also optioned small foot passes to Ibanda.
All boda boda operators no longer operate in registered gazetted stages which have left no address to enable contact tracing in case of Covid-19 infection and has made the work of police in Kazo difficult.
While addressing Ugandans recently, President Museveni issued a directive to close border districts for no passenger vehicle and boda boda allowed to cross into another district.
More so boda boda riders should not carry any passenger rather, luggages in compliance with the government Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to control the spread of Coronavirus in Uganda.
